Isizathu sesithathu sokwenza iMpi Yemali Yamakhanda ibhebhezeleke kwaba yimizamo kaHulumeni wamaNgisi aseNatali yokuba kuboshwe iNgonyama uDinuzulu ngezinsolo zokuthi yayifihle izibhamu zempi eyayizinikezwe nguHulumeni wamaNgisi ukwelekelela ukuqeda iMpi yamaBhunu namaNgisi (1899¬-1902). INgonyama uDinuzulu yabamba elikhulu iqhaza ekusizeni impi yamaNgisi ukwehlula eyamaBhunu kwazise uHulumeni waseNgilandi wawuyinikeze igunya lokuba ikhethe izinsizwa eziqotho ezazizoqeqeshwa zinikezwe izibhamu nomfaniselwano kakhaki owawufanana nowamasotsha wamaNgisi. Lezo zinsizwa ezaziqeqeshelwe ukulwa ngezibhamu zaqanjwa yiNgonyama uDinuzulu zaziwa ngeNkomendala.

INgonyama uDinuzulu yaphoqwa ukuba ibuyise zonke izibhamu zempi. INgonyama yaziphindisela izibhamu kodwa amaphoyisa ezomoya athi kwakukhona izibhamu iNgonyama eyayizifihlile. Lokhu kwakungelona iqiniso kodwa akhona amaZulu ayengazange aziphindisele zonke izibhamu ayezithumbe eMpini yakwaDleka eduze kwakwaNongoma ngoMbasa we-1901. Ezinye kwakubuywe nazo ngoNdasa we-1902 empini yamabutho eNgonyama ayeyi-1000 ayehlasele amaBhunu eVryheid eholwa nguNdabankulu kaLukhwazi Ntombela noMntwana uMadakavana, nakwaMthashana lapho uSikhobobo Sibiya wahola impi engaphezulu kwe-1000 mhla ziyisi-6 kuNhlaba we-1902. Ngakho-ke kwakungelula ukuthi bonke labo bantu babuyise izibhamu. Okunye okwadalela uHulumeni waseNatali inkinga ukungabinalo uhla lwawo wonke amalungu eNkomendala ahlakazwa uma kuphela iMpi yamaBhunu namaNgisi.

Sewushayiwe uMthetho Wemali Yamakhanda aMakhosi ezizwe eziningi eningizimu nasenyakatho yoThukela noMzinyathi, aphikelela eSigodlweni sasoSuthu ngenhloso yokuyozwa uvo lweNgonyama mayelana nalo Mthetho Wemali Yamakhanda (uKhandampondo). Amanye alawo Makhosi ayevela eBaqulusini, oMabhoko Ntshangase, uMnyayiza kaMthakathi Mthethwa noMtshekula Sibiya. Phakathi kwalawo ayeqhamuka eningizimu yoThukela kwakukhona amadoda oMqayikana, udibi kanye nenye indoda abafika oSuthu bethunyelwe yiNkosi uTilongo Mkhize waseMbo. Kwaphinde kwafika uMtheli owayengumalume weNkosi uKula Mthembu wamaQamu eMsinga nowayehamba noNdubela elinye igama okwanguMavukuthu. WayeyiNkosi yaseMsinga ehamba noMtheli bezozwa uvo lweSilo uDinuzulu mayelana nokukhokhwa kukaKhandampondo. Waphunyuka eMome uMtheli isibambene neyabelungu namambuka.

Kuzo zonke izithunywa zaMakhosi iNgonyama yayifike ichaze ukuthi kunzima kuyo ukuphawula ngalolo daba kwazise izimbizo zabe sezaqedwa. Yayigcina ngokuthi yona oSuthu yabe isiyikhokhile leyo ntela.

Ukuphikelela kwezithunywa zamakhosi oSuthu kwabhebhezeliswa nawukuthi uLangalibalele Dube wase ewavule amehlo amaZulu ngokuyothula iNhlangano iNatal Native Congress ngowe-1903 eSilweni uDinuzulu nokwenza inhlabamkhosi yokuthi wonke amaZulu kudingeka azi ukuthi iNgonyama yawo nguDinuzulu kaCetshwayo kuphela. Singakenzeki lesi simemezelo sikaDube amanye amaZulu ayesedideke kakhulu kangangokuthi uMbusi waseNgilandi kuKoloni yaseNatali wayesebizwa ngeNgonyama. Ngakho-ke kuwo wonke aMakhosi ayezobuza eNgonyameni uDinuzulu mayelana noKhandampondo yayichaza ukuthi akukho eyayingakuphawula ngalolo daba ngoba izimbizo zesizwe ezazibizwa nguZulu kudingidwe kuzo izindaba zesizwe zazingasekho.
